Sajjad Sabzivand, an official with the Port and Maritime Organization of the Imam Khomeini Port Authority, said on Friday that following reports of drowning of a cargo vessel in Kuwait’s territorial waters, the organization started locating the Iranian sailors and coordinated with international entities in order to pave the way for rescuing their lives.

The Khorramshahr Port and Maritime Administration contacted Iran’s embassy in Kuwait, he said, adding that Kuwaiti rescue teams and coastal guards were dispatched to the area to save the lives of the Iranian sailors.

Coordination between different Iranian organizations as well as the Kuwaiti authorities led to finding the place of the cargo vessel and rescuing the six sailors in Arvand River, he noted.

The incident of drowning of an Iranian vessel is the second of its kind in the northwestern waters of the Persian Gulf in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2022).
