Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanaani with blaming some Western officials for their stances about Iran’s recent unrest said, “Today we will impose a new round of sanction against some figures from the European Union and some British entities and individuals as well”.
“Interfering in Iran’s internal affairs won’t be left without any responses and Iran is not affected by threats and pressures, aiming at getting scores from Tehran,” he added.
Asked by CBS journalist if Iran pays heed to the consequences of executions of recent detainees based on the international reactions, the Iranian spokesman said, “As we’ve repeatedly noted, interfering with Iran’s internal affairs is illegal and unconstructive and we want these kinds of countries to refer to their own actions – the way that protesters are treated in these countries. We have stated many times that Iran has the right to have peaceful protests based on its domestic rules and regulations. Protesting is free in Iran and people are allowed to protest in the country and call for the officials to meet their demands”.
“Tehran cannot accept these unconstructive interferences and we have emphasized many times that protesting based on the rules is a legal action, but riots are unconstructive and foreign sides’ supports don’t help the voices of protesters to be heard,” he added.
When asked about Iran’s stance about China and its joint statement signed by Persian Gulf Cooperation Council seems light and strong measures have not been taken against China, Nasser Kanaani declared, “Iran-China ties are expanding based on the common issues and political will of both countries, so within this context, Iran hosts a high-ranking political and economic delegation from China on Monday, aiming at expanding interactions of both countries”.
However, he went on to say, “As I have already said, we never compromise with any side on Iran’s substantive interest and its territorial integrity and we show serious response over allegations published recently. Also, we use all diplomatic capabilities to enhance the interest of both countries”.
“We announced the Islamic Republic of Iran’s official position. The Foreign Ministry of China also took immediate action, as we lodged our complaint before Chinese ambassador to Iran,” Kanaani said.
Nasser Kanaani in response to this question whether Iran has called for military advisors from Russia, as some western media have claimed, noted, “Iran-Russia cooperation is expanding in different aspects. In fact, defensive cooperation of both countries is a part of constructive cooperation of the countries and it is not against any third countries. Generally, these claims are the words of fake media and we shouldn’t pay attention to them”.
Regarding quadrilateral meeting of Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Tehran, Kanaani declared, “As we have stated many times, Afghanistan is one the most important issues for us. We’ve had maximum attempts in case of Afghanistan’s stability and security particularly after US withdrawal and we will continue our efforts in this path to secure better living conditions for Afghans”.
