Nasser Kanaani added that the US representative also signed the agreement but the US government has so far declined to put it into effect under various pretexts.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman added that in recent weeks, the two sides kept exchanging messages to update the agreement.

Kanaani stressed the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that swapping the prisoners is a purely humanitarian issue which should not be turned into a subject of political games.
