According to a report by the Iranian Embassy in Minsk, the Belarusian foreign minister Sergei Aleinik made the remarks in a meeting with Ali Bagheri Kani, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, who had traveled to Belarus with the aim of participating in the sixth round of bilateral political consultations.
He said, “The positive trend of development of relations between the two countries changed course with the visit of Mr. Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, to Tehran.”
Belarusian minister also described the visit of the Iranian deputy foreign minister to Minsk and the holding of the sixth round of political consultations between the two countries after a four-year hiatus as a very positive development to revive cooperation.
Elsewhere in this meeting, Aleinik referred to the sanctions imposed by the Westerners against Minsk and called for sharing Iran’s experiences in dealing with the sanctions.
He also touched upon the cooperation between the two countries in international organizations and demanded the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus for membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS.
Referring to the holding of the 16th Joint Bilateral Economic Commission with the participation of the first vice president of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Minsk in the near future, Aleinik emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation.
