Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, saying that a UNHRC meeting should be held to discuss the performances of governments that encourage violence and terrorism.
On the unconstructive stances and measures of certain states, the top diplomat criticized that in contradiction to the UN Charter, a few Western governments have misused peaceful demands of the Iranians, encouraged violence, and taught how to prepare Molotov cocktail via media platforms, which led to the killing of police and creating insecurity and paving the ground for Daesh’s terrorist attack in Shiraz.
He slammed double standard by certain Western governments and their attempt to hold a UNHRC meeting on Iran, noting that the meeting should be held on governments who promote violence and terrorism and it should not be held on the Islamic Republic, which is the real supporter of human rights and showed self-restraint in the recent unrest.
The foreign minister also warned about the negative effect of the political measure by the UNHRC on Iran’s collaborations with the West.
The two sides also held talks on regional and international developments, including Ukraine, Yemen, and negotiations for lifting anti-Iran sanctions.
The FM also underlined that the Atomic Energy Agency of Iran (AEOI) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have appropriate cooperation.
As to the war in Yemen, he pointed to Iran’s role in extending a ceasefire in the war-stricken country, noting that any decision on the ceasefire and lifting of the siege should be discussed among Yemeni leaders and people.
Furthermore, he said that the Islamic Republic of Iran vehemently rules out any accusation of delivering drones to Russia to be used in the Ukraine war.
The UN secretary general dismissed any political intervention by the UNHRC in the internal affairs of countries.
Guterres appreciated Iran’s role in fighting terrorism and assisting in the Yemen ceasefire, calling for constant cooperation between Tehran and the UN’s special envoy on Yemen.
He expressed hope that a recent meeting of ambassadors from the littoral states of the Persian Gulf and Iran with the UN secretary-general on the new structure of regional cooperation would help enhance stability and peace in the region.
He also noted that negotiations for the removal of anti-Iran sanctions can protect the interests of all sides, describing the IAEA-AEOI cooperation as a positive step by Tehran.
