Saying that with the solution of the Karabakh issue, the equations of the Caucasus region have changed, Kharrazi called for adopting suitable strategies to resolve other issues in that region.
From the beginning, Iran has considered the Karabakh region as part of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he said, adding that even during the era of the former Azeri president, the country offered to provide arms assistance to Baku to use for liberating its occupied territory.
Kharrazi added that accordingly, Iran does not accept any occupation of Armenian lands by Azerbaijan and emphasizes maintaining the current borders in the region.
He further stressed that hiding the 3+3 format meeting in Tehran can help resolve the disputes in the region.
Earlier, Iran’s foreign minister Amir-Abdollahian in a meeting with Armen Grigoryan, the secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia, in Tehran on Tuesday underlined the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional countries, supporting the 3+3 format as an effective mechanism for resolving disputes in the Caucasus region.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri in his meeting with the Armenian top security official on Wednesday said that Iran is ready to contribute to reducing tensions in the Caucasus region.
