Iran’s President Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi and Iraq’s Prime Minister held a phone conversation on Saturday to discuss the latest developments in the region.
Expressing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s deep concern over the inhumane actions and the killing of innocent people in Gaza, the Iranian president said, “The Zionist regime is trying to avenge the defeat it suffered at the hands of the Resistance forces on the battlefield by resorting to collective punishment and committing systematic crimes against defenseless and innocent civilians.”
Raeisi described cutting off water and electricity and preventing fuel and food supplies to the Gaza Strip as clear examples of war crimes and crimes against humanity, elaborating more that, “What we witnessed in Gaza was the result of rage at the atrocities and crimes by the Zionists, while the leaders of the Zionist regime tried to attribute it to external factors.”
The President pointed out that lifting the inhuman blockade on Gaza and preventing the ongoing genocide in the region requires immediate action from all Islamic nations, stressing that “the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to take collective action with Iraq and all other Islamic countries in this regard.”
The Iraqi prime minister, for his part, expressed his gratitude to the principled positions of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the government and the people of Iran in supporting the oppressed people of Palestine, saying, “What is happening in Gaza today is a genocide in retaliation for the great defeat that the Zionist regime suffered in the battlefield against the Resistance Mujahideens.
Al-Sudani added that the Zionist regime’s authorities are seeking to avenge their defeat by attacking innocent civilians, thus all Islamic countries have a duty to use all their capabilities and potential to stop this.
Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip since Hamas’s operation in southern occupied territories last Saturday have killed at least 2,215 people, including 724 children, the Palestinian health ministry said Saturday.
