High-ranking delegations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Algeria held a meeting in Algiers on Sunday chaired by the Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and the president of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The President of Iran congratulated the Algerian government for the successful holding of the 7th Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit of Heads of State and Government and pointed to the good political relations and the cultural and religious commonalities between the two countries and emphasized the further enhancing the level of economic and trade relations between the two countries.
The president considered Algeria to be a leading country in the fight against hegemony and colonialism and paid tribute to the independence martyrs of the country. “Algeria’s regional policy is aimed at promoting peace and security in the region and we regard this policy as a positive matter,” Raeisi said.
He pointed to Iran’s advances in technology and other economic fields and expressed hope that his trip would become a turning point in opening a new chapter for the expansion of commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Iranian President also pointed to the shared views of Iran and Algeria on various regional issues, especially the fight against terrorism, and considered the development of Tehran-Algiers relations as laying the ground for strengthening the regional and international relations between the two sides.
The president also pointed out the transfer of experiences in different sectors of science and technology, energy and petrochemicals with Algeria and suggested that the two countries cooperate for the joint production of products, especially in the knowledge-based field.
In the meeting, Tebboune, for his part, expressed gratitude for the presence of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran in GECF summit, and the agreements made in a private meeting with Raeisi in the field of strengthening commercial, economic, and political relations. He also pointed to the increase in commercial and financial exchanges and emphasized the activation of the joint commission of the two countries.

The two presidents held a joint press conference after the meeting of the high-ranking delegations and made almost similar comments as they did in the meeting.
In the joint press conference in Algiers, Raeisi stressed that “Defending the oppressed Palestinian people is one of the unalterable principles of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We have never hesitated to support the rights of the Palestinian people, and we consider the solution to the realization of the Palestinian people’s rights as to be holding a referendum to know the votes of the Palestinian people, including Muslims, Christians and Jews.”
The Iranian president further referred to the negotiations held at the meeting of the high-ranking delegations of the two countries and said, “The high-ranking officials of Iran and Algeria are determined to develop economic and trade relations in parallel with the development of political relations, and the very good potentials of the two countries lay an appropriate ground for enhancing the level of economic relations.”
