Regarding the police missions to maintain the security of the elections, Brigadier General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi stated that according to articles 19 and 68 of the election law, ensuring the order of the elections is the responsibility of the police, noting that the police take action in this regard by employing 190 thousand troops with the help of other security forces including Basij forces and border guards.
He said that special police units will be ready to secure elections, adding that police will stand by the Iranian people’s side until the election’s results are determined.
The police spokesperson stated that according to article 58 of the election law, the police are one of the five authorities for verifying candidates’ qualifications.
He further noted that in addition to ensuring the security of the elections, the police also supervise the process of the candidate’s advertising campaigns.
