Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Nasser Kanaani told reporters, “According to investigations, the incident at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran was a personal move, and the police and judicial forces are continuing to investigate its dimensions more closely”.
“Unfortunately, after this incident, the government of Azerbaijan decided to suspend the activities of its embassy in Tehran. But, Iran believes in self-restraint and avoiding haste regarding this tragic incident,” he added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Kanaani announced that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is planning to visit Beijing, but no exact dates have been determined yet.
Referring that talks between Iran and Russia regarding Syria have been held in Moscow recently, the spokesman said, “These negotiations are part of the diplomacy process that has been carried out in connection with the developments in Syria”.
Kanaani also announced that Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani will travel to Moscow to attend the meeting of the secretaries of the Security Council of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries.
He stated that the visit will be an opportunity to discuss avenues for bringing peace to Afghanistan and to boost economic development in the country.
The spokesman also said that the situation in Syria and other bilateral issues will also be discussed in Shamkhani’s visit to Russia.
Regarding South Korean President’s anti-Iran statements, Kanaani said, “We demanded a convincing explanation from South Korea about the statements of the president of this country against Iran, but their explanation was not convincing. If we do not receive a clear and convincing answer, we will consider this as an official position of the South Korean government, which may have further negative effects on bilateral relations”.
About South Korea’s debt to Iran, Kanaani emphasized that Iran is seriously pursuing the case and will follow it up until receiving all of Iran’s national assets from Seoul.
“Unfortunately, the South Korean government has not shown the necessary will to solve the problem,” the spokesman stressed, warning that the Iranian government can make a decision over filing a complaint.
