A few days after Venezuela’s Supreme Court announced that it would ban an opposition candidate from running in the elections, the US government threatened to reimpose sanctions on the country’s oil industry.
“Resorting to such actions is a direct interference in the internal affairs of countries and a violation of the United Nations Charter, and its continuation will increase the will and cooperation of independent countries to resist such meddling policies,” the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said n a statement on Thursday.
Kan’ani emphasized that Washington’s using of sanctions as a weapon against other countries is against the rights of governments and nations, human rights and international law standards.
