The Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell have held a telephone conversation, the Iranian foreign ministry’s English website reported.
In this telephone conversation, Amir-Abdollahian referred to the terrorist attack by the Zionist regime on the consular section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, which martyred 7 Iranian military advisers and a number of civilians and wounded some Syrian citizens.
He said European authorities always invite the Islamic Republic of Iran to exercise restraint while the Israeli regime, in violation of international law, has attacked a diplomatic site that enjoys complete immunity in line with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Amir-Abdollahian added it should be noted that in addition to the martyrdom of seven Iranian nationals who were on a diplomatic and military advisory mission to fight terrorism and of six Syrian citizens, including a mother and child, regional peace and security and, at the same time, the security of diplomats and diplomatic sites have been completely violated by the Israeli regime through this terrorist act.
The top Iranian diplomat said unfortunately, the genocide and war crimes by the Israeli regime continue in Gaza with the US continuously supporting it.
He said naturally, if the US does not have a serious will to control and stop supporting the war crimes of the Israeli regime, Washington is directly responsible for the spillover of the tensions across the wider region.
Amir-Abdollahian went on to say Iran expects the EU to strongly condemn such crimes by the Israeli regime in a realistic and immediate move.
Just imagine if something like this had happened in the Ukraine war theater against the building of a western embassy… what would have been the European Union’s reaction like?”, Amir-Abdollahian noted.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell pointed out that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack on the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying that the EU also believes that Israel’s latest action is at odds with efforts to de-escalate the tensions in the region.
Borrell further noted that he will share the serious concerns of the Islamic Republic of Iran with other EU members. He called for Iran to keep exercising restraint.
The EU foreign policy chief highlighted the developments in Gaza and said unfortunately, the EU’s efforts to stop the war in Gaza have not been successful so far, but “we will continue our efforts to that end.”
