Speaking at the National Export Day ceremony, Abbas Ali-Abadi stated that during his recent trip to Minsk, the possibility of exchanging goods in the form of barter with Belarus, in a different way from previous processes, was provided. He noted that the import substitution approach has failed in various countries, and the countries that put the export-oriented production approach on the agenda are among the successful examples.
Referring to the 8% economic growth target, Ali-Abadi noted that among the most important requirements for this economic growth, achieving 20% growth in non-oil exports is essential which also requires 60 to 80 billion dollars of investment.
He went on to say that one of the approaches of this ministry is export-oriented growth instead of import substitution, stating that the presented programs emphasize creating wealth and job opportunities, reducing the technology gap with leading countries, and focusing on supporting export-oriented production or services with medium or high technology.
In Iran, the development of non-oil exports and getting rid of crude oil exports is one of the central goals of the country’s economic development, he said, adding that in order to achieve this purpose, the necessary background should be provided.
He added,” We need to attract domestic and foreign investment, technology, and technical knowledge for capacity building”.
For this purpose, the country’s economic, political, commercial, and economic relations with the world, especially with the neighboring countries, should be improved and tensions should be eased in the field of bilateral relations, he concluded.
Iran commemorated October 22 as National Export Day in a bid to honor domestic top exporters and examine avenues of further bolstering exports, particularly in the non-oil sector.
