Mohammad Barkindo, the 63-year-old Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, died on Tuesday night, July 14.
According to didgahnews , quoted by Reuters, while announcing this news, the Nigerian authorities have not provided more details about the reason or reasons for the death of Barkindo, who had met with the President of Nigeria on Monday.
In an official statement released on Wednesday morning, while announcing the death of the Organization’s Secretary General, OPEC described this news as “shocking for the OPEC family”.
Mohammad Barkindo was the Secretary General of OPEC since August 2015. He was previously the Director General of the National Petroleum Corporation of Nigeria.
Barkindo once held the role of interim Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries in 2006, but ten years later in 2016, he returned to this position again.
