The United States expresses its official condolences for the death (martyrdom) of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and other members of their delegation in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran, Anadolu Agency reported.
According to the Iranian Constitution, the first vice president – Mohammad Mokhber – will assume powers of the presidency and elections be held within 50 days.
The NATO military alliance also expressed condolences “to the people of Iran for the death of President Raeisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and others,” spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah wrote on her X account.
And Pope Francis sent his condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Raeisi lost his life alongside his accompanying delegation after their chopper crashed in the Dizmar forest in East Azarbaijan Province on Sunday.
