The Pakistani minister and his accompanying delegation arrived in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad before his scheduled meetings with senior Iranian officials. The meeting with President Pezehskain was held on Saturday afternoon. Prior to that, the Pakistani delegation met with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. 

During the meeting, President Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for the brotherly, responsible, and committed approach of the Pakistani government in supporting the dialogue process and diplomatic efforts that led to the ceasefire agreement and the end of the war. He emphasized Pakistan’s constructive and effective role in supporting diplomacy and helping consolidate the outcomes of the negotiations.

The Iranian president also highlighted the Islamic Republic’s strong determination to expand and deepen relations with Pakistan across all areas of mutual interest, stressing the need to make full use of the extensive potential in bilateral ties.

In this regard, it was agreed that a high-level Iranian delegation, led by Iran’s interior minister and including the ministers of agriculture, industry, mining and trade, and economic affairs and finance, will visit Pakistan to explore and advance opportunities for cooperation in economic, trade, investment, and other shared fields.

For his part, Naqvi welcomed the ceasefire agreement and the end of the war, and expressed satisfaction with meeting the Iranian president. He praised the diplomatic efforts and measures undertaken by President Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in effectively managing political and diplomatic processes.

Naqvi also expressed appreciation for the guidance of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, and praised his strategic and prudent role in supporting diplomatic efforts and helping bring the crisis to an end and secure a ceasefire.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of relations between Tehran and Islamabad, the Pakistani interior minister said his government is determined to significantly expand bilateral cooperation in all areas, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.

He further announced that Pakistan’s new ambassador to Tehran will begin his mission with a special mandate to promote economic, commercial, and strategic relations between the two countries.

Earlier today, the Pakistani Interior Minister also met and held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

Commenting on the visit, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the Pakistani Interior Minister’s trip is a continuation of Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding the Iran-US negotiations.

Naqvi was back in Iran in continuation of Pakistan’s mediating efforts after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Tehran and Washington known as Islamabad MoU.

The Pakistani interior minister, who has traveled to Tehran for the several times in the recent weeks to discuss the Iran-US negotiations, was officially welcomed by Governor of Khorasan Razavi province Gholamhossein Mozaffari at Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport of Mashhad.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Baghaei, previously confirmed that the Pakistani interior minister’s trip is a direct continuation of Islamabad’s ongoing mediation and diplomatic initiatives regarding the Iran-US dialogue. According to Baghaei, Naqvi is scheduled to hold separate meetings and consultations with his Iranian counterpart, Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, as well as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during his official visit. On Wednesday, the presidents of Iran and the United States formally signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
